I thought I’d share with you the growing seedling that is my latest creative project.
It actually began a couple of years ago when a client asked me to learn some Scottish folk songs for a family reunion at the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair, of all places! I realised how much I love folk song, but particularly Scottish folk song. With many of my in-laws hailing from the Borders, including the breaktaking scenary of a sheep farm near Galashiels, my interest has contiued to grow. This year, with a little more time on my hands, I decided to record some of the songs that I’d learnt for that particular London event.
Since then I’ve added to my collection and it has started to evolve into an album. Currently on the song list are Will ye go lassie, go?, Eriskay love lilt and My love is like a red, red rose. Other British folk song are on the wish list and in the pipeline, but I seem do seem to have gravitated towards the highlands!
Here’s a sneak peek of My love is like a red, red rose, recorded and mixed by Jake Rousham, mastered by James Livett and ambience samples from freesound.org by by juskiddink and theneedle.tv.
The question is – birdsong or no? …and what’s your favourite folk song?
