A milestone worth celebrating
This weekend, something special arrived in the post – my Postgraduate Certificate in Voice Pedagogy from the Voice Study Centre and University of Wales Trinity Saint David. After an intense 2024 filled with studying, performing, teaching, and juggling family life, I’m incredibly proud to have this certificate in my hands.

Lessons Learned Along the Way
This journey has been a wonderful, deep dive into the world of voice, teaching, and learning. Alongside all the fascinating discoveries, I’ve also had a few revelations about myself:
🎵 Despite my love for tidying and organising, I really dislike transcribing, coding, and analysing data.
🎵 I’m still not entirely sure I can confidently explain the difference between epistemology and ontology – and honestly, I’m completely fine with that!

Beyond these personal insights, I’ve had the privilege of exploring some truly thought-provoking and valuable topics, including:
🎵 Certificate in Singing Teaching, with the brilliant Kerrie Obert
🎵 The importance of protecting teacher wellbeing
🎵 How perfectionism impacts both teachers and students
🎵 Self-regulated learning and how it supports effective music practice
🎵 Conducting my first primary research project, investigating the differences in practice approaches between singers and instrumentalists

My passion
If there’s one thing this experience has reinforced, it’s my love for the human voice. It’s endlessly fascinating and something I’ll never tire of exploring – both in my own singing and in my teaching.
A huge thank you to my tutor, Mel Toy, for her enthusiasm, knowledge, and support throughout this process.
So, with this latest addition, my name now officially reads: Jennifer Maslin BA Hons, DipABRSM, PGCE, PGCert. That’s plenty of letters for now!
Here’s to the next chapter – whatever that may bring…

My teaching books are fairly full at the moment, however if you are an adult, have weekday availability and are keen to work on any or all of the following, give me an email!
- Developing your unique sound
- Improving your vocal technique
- Working towards a particular short- or longterm goal
- Exploring singing practice methods
- Gaining encouragement and confidence in yourself, your voice and performance
I look forward to hearing from you and will do my best to help!
