Well, we’ve just performed our third night at Il Vesuvio Italian restaurant in Tunbridge Wells and I thought it would be nice to write a blog post about the evening for anyone looking for a night of live music, entertainment and a lovely meal out in an Italian setting… and something a bit different!
It’s a sad fact that not many restaurants or pubs offer live music anymore and, if it does, this is usually at the expense of the under/unpaid musician or the audience’s ears. During a trip to Paris to visit a friend, we went out for a meal where the menu offered a small dining supplement to enjoy an amazing bossa nova band. We were more than happy to pay the price of a glass of wine for some fabulous music (the band was called SambaTida Perfeita – do check them out) and the music really made the evening for us. It got me thinking. How about bringing a bit of France along with our music to Tunbridge Wells?
After a discussion with Il Vesuvio, Belle ragazze Music Night (the name given to us by the Biscardi family, not our massive egos!) was born. We aim to offer a mixture of voice, piano and violin music every third Thursday of the month – a little familiar something to enjoy, and an enjoyable little something to discover. Pianist (flautist & violinist!) Lianna Jeffery is a brilliant musician and a pleasure to sing with. We’ve loved learning new Italian songs to add to our repertoire such as O sole mio, Volare and Santa Lucia, as well as balancing it with favourite show tunes and jazz numbers. Of course the chats and giggles along the way when two very good friends get together is also a bonus.
The last three evenings have been a sell out and the atmosphere really is as warm as the Biscardis’ welcome. Do come and join us on either the 15th October or 19th November for the last two music nights of 2015. Tickets are £5 per head but under 12s listen for free!
